New President Arrives at the Foundation

Michael Johnston, new President and CEO of the Foundation

The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford announced the selection of Michael Johnston as its new President & CEO. He will join the Foundation in February. Michael succeeds Doreen Fundiller-Zweig who retired in December after eighteen years of leadership at the Foundation.

Johnston is an established nonprofit leader who, for the past three years, served as CEO of the United Way of Western Connecticut. In this position he led programs that address obesity issues in children, promote early childhood education and help families create long-term financial stability. Prior to working in the nonprofit sector he spent more than 20 years working on Wall Street in the financial services industry. He is active in Jewish community life and currently serves as President of Temple B’nai Chaim in Georgetown, Connecticut. Johnston holds a Master of Business Administration, Master of Urban Planning/Economic Planning from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Drew University.

Michael looks forward to working at the Foundation and in the Greater Hartford Jewish community. He said, “The Foundation has an extraordinary history and, I believe it has an exceptional future ahead of it. I am honored to be asked to be part of the work making a meaningful difference in our community.”

“We are delighted that Michael has accepted the position,” said David Miller, Board Chair at the Jewish Community Foundation. “The entire board feels that his skills as a leader, manager and strategic thinker will help the Foundation move forward and navigate the challenges our community faces today and in the future.”
