Jack’s Bar Mitzvah Celebration will Last a Lifetime
When Jack Hutensky’s parents established a Donor Advised Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah, he was not sure what they had given him. It turned out to be a cherished gift that keeps on giving.
“Looking back, at 13, I had no idea what I’d been given,” said Jack. “But it has already taught me so much about how I want to live my life. No matter how big or small, I can’t think of a better gift parents could give their child.”
“My family instilled in me early on that giving back to the community is both a joy and an obligation,” said Jack. “My fund is a vehicle that allows me to more substantially support the causes that matter to me.”
Jack’s parents seeded the fund with gifts he received for his Bar Mitzvah and he regularly adds to it now that he is working full time.
Today, at age 25, Jack enjoys recommending grants from his fund to nonprofits that share his values and can make an impact. “I like to support organizations in communities where I have lived and worked, with an emphasis on Jewish causes and organizations that expand access to experiences that have been formative for me,” explains Jack.
